Koala tree use and tree species availability data in the NSW Southern Tablelands

This data is from a koala and habitat study undertaken in the NSW Monaro region in 2020-2021. For the study duration, all koalas that were fitted with GPS collars (n = 33) were visually checked once per week where possible, and the species of tree in which they were observed was recorded. The dataset summarises this information as the proportion of observations in each tree species for each koala. In addition to this, vegetation surveys were undertaken in 30 grid cells (900 x 900 m each) across the study site in 2021-2023 using three different methods - point surveys, quadrat surveys, and transect surveys. The results of these vegetation surveys were used to calculate the relative proportions of each eucalypt species available to each koala, based on the proportion of plant community types present in each koala's home range. The final calculated values for each koala for each vegetation survey method are provided in the dataset.
