Written archival Yuwaalaraay Gamilaraay

There are many Yuwaalaraay Gamilaraay archival materials. The main ones are by Rev William Ridley, R H Mathews, Stephen Wurm, Gerhart Laves and Katie Langloh-Parker. There are many others. These materials use a range of orthographies. They are of varying quality – depending on the skill and theoretical base the writer had access to and on the fluency of the informant. They also display regional variation, and sometimes it is unclear which language is being recorded. The main materials are wordlists, grammars and written text – mainly phrases and sentences. Some of these are published, others handwritten records. There are also incidental records of Yuwaalaraay and Gamilaraay. The interpretations included here were done by John Giacon, mainly between 1995 and 2014.
