Receiving a PhD in surveying form the School of Surveying at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1994, then worked for 17 years as Research Scientist at the Massachusets Institute of Technology (MIT) , Department of Earth Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, before joining the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University (ANU) as a Fellow in 2010.
