Mithun completed his Bachelor of Science honours (2014) at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Before joining with ANU, he worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at University of Peradeniya for two years in Plant Biotechnology. He started his PhD with Prof. Gottfried Otting in the field of Structural Biology and Protein NMR. He is interested in NMR studies of Viral proteins, Cell free protein synthesis and incorporation of unnatural amino acids to proteins.
