Upland Heath Swamps Plot Network: Hydrological Climate Variables, Dharawal National Park and Dharawal Nature Reserve, Sydney Basin, NSW, Australia, 2013-2018

Abstract: This Upland Heath Swamps Plot Network Hydrological Climate data was monitored between 2013 and 2018 at automatic weather stations established by the University of NSW in 2013 within the study area. In addition, three soil probes placed along local soil moisture gradients in the vicinity of each station record soil moisture, conductivity and temperature at various depths below the surface at 30-minute intervals, which are averaged to produce daily mean estimates. The Upland Heath Swamps Plot Network research plots commenced in 1983 and have been revisited in 2004, 2009 and again in 2014. A synopsis of related data packages which have been collected as part of the Upland Heath Swamps Plot Network’s full program is provided at https://doi.org/10.25911/5c1313b2b2644 Project funding: Between 2012 and 2018 this project was part of, and funded through the Long Term Ecological Research Network (LTERN) a facility within the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) and supported by the Australian Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy.

Methods
Plot set-up
1
3 automatic weather stations
3 soil probes
Hydrological climate variables are monitored within the study area. During 15 June and 6 July 2013, three automatic weather stations were installed across the regional precipitation gradient within the study area.
In addition, three soil probes are placed along local soil moisture gradients in the vicinity of each station record soil moisture, conductivity and temperature.
Data collection (rainfall and evaporation)
2
The weather stations record total rainfall and total pan evaporation each day. Total rainfall uses instantaneous values (it does not accumulate). This is derived from the tipping bucket rain gauge.
Data collection (soil moisture, conductivity and temperature)
3
The soil probes record soil moisture, conductivity and temperature at depths various depths (3, 5, 10, 13, 15, 20, 23, 25, 30, 33, 35 and 40 cm) below the surface at 30-minute intervals, which are averaged to produce daily mean estimates.
