Voices of Displaced

Indigenous communities, or tribals, are being displaced by large scale open-cut coal mines in Jharkhand in eastern India. We took their 'oral testimony' during 2001-2002, and revisited these indivuals after ten years to find out how they are doing now. The main purpose was to see how they fared after giving up their land, whether they received adequate compensation, and how their lives have changed in the intervening years. In this video you will see them talk about their past, present and future. It brings out the voice of those affected by mining.
